Andrew Wilkie well clear in Denison while Labor vote halves

In conjunction with The Australian, ReachTEL conducted a four-question survey of 644 residents in the Tasmanian Federal electorate of Denison on the night of the 27th June 2012. The results showed that Andrew Wilkie is well clear having doubled his primary vote since the 2010 Federal Election. In the same period, Labor has halved their primary vote thus avoiding the three-way race that occured at the election.

Key findings:

  • Andrew Wilkie is well clear with 40% of the primary vote thus avoiding the three-way race that occurred in 2010.
  • Since the Federal Election in 2010, Labor’s primary vote has halved while Andrew Wilkie’s vote has nearly doubled.
  • Nearly two-thirds of the electorate prefer Julia Gillard as Prime Minister over Tony Abbott.

Preference distribution methodology – Greens and Others distributed as per Denison Federal Election 2010 preferences and Labor preferences approximated at 75% to Andrew Wilkie and 25% to Liberal candidate.

This survey was conducted using an automated telephone based survey system among 644 voters. Telephone numbers and the person within the household were selected at random.
